Anyone can set up a gaming system and hook it to a standard wireless router. However, it takes a bit more expertise in order to be able to hook up various pieces of equipment that are all over your house.
For that type of a set-up, you need the full wireless coverage you can get from a long range wireless router. There are basically six questions you need to answer, though, before going out to buy a long range router which will help you decide between the many models that are available. Start by considering how much money you have to spend on the project. If you have unlimited funds, then you can pretty much do anything you want to do. However, if you’re on a fixed budget, you’ll want to consider how much each step of the process is going to cost you to ensure that you’ll have sufficient funds to finish the project once you’ve started it. Nothing is more frustrating than getting halfway through something you’re doing and discovering that you don’t have the money to continue. Look at your schedule and determine the kind of time you have available to work on the project. This isn’t something you’re going to be able to complete in a couple of hours. In fact, it may take weeks for you to get everything set up and working the way it should. Therefore, if you don’t see a lot of free time in your near future, you should postpone the project until you do have time. When it comes to looking over the layout of the equipment you want to hook up and it’s location in relation to other equipment, there are two points you need to consider. First of all, are you able to stand by one of your sites and be visually able to see the other port you want to hook up? In addition, you need to know how far apart the two locations are. The materials that you’ll need to hook up a link of 100 feet is going to be substantially different than if you were running the link for a mile. The type of equipment you plan on using will help determine the kind of router you need. There are two different grades of equipment: business level or consumer. By upgrading to business level equipment, you’ll gain in both relability and support, but you’ll have to pay more to do so. As you can see, getting wireless coverage throughout your entire house isn’t an easy job, but it can be done provided you have the money and the persistence to tackle the difficult work using a long range wireless router.
